Hair Combs
Seed beads are the traditional basis for making hair combs, particularly as bridal accessories.. The Preciosa project below is a good classic design that will show you how to make simple but versatile beaded wire flowers.
The Sparkling Beauty design takes this a stage further and shows how to make twist wire to make a beaded cluster for your flowers. Round pearls and small sparking crystal or crystal AB facetted beads are a classic combination.
A more elaborate design is shown with these Blooming Beauty hair combs. The small 5x7mm pip beads are perfect for making small flower shapes.
Here, the pip beads are again used to make pretty floral sprays with a few larger pearls to balance them. Pearlescent pearls work well with more colourful bead combinations.
You can also use the twisted wire technique with coloured wire to give a more exotic look or to create some fun accessories. Here, the fuchsia coloured wire was twisted round a pen to create spirals. These can then be pulled into position to give an asymmetrical but balanced effect. Using coloured wire opens up a whole new range of options in terms of the beads and shapes that you can wire onto the comb. Small circles of pearls and bicones echo the round shape of the roses.
You can also try wiring larger stones, pearls and beads to your comb. Here we used larger fancy stones in sew-on settings. We also added some large pearl drops for contrast. Keep the wire twists shorter so that heavier beads are kept in place.
